I regularly create installations in commission. For a specific site. This can be inside, often it is outside. The organizer of an exhibition asks me to react on the circomstances of a specific place or site.
My work is a reaction on what shows there. Or what does not show. The reaction of my work on what surrounds it, and the reaction of what surrounds on my work, is one of the most exciting parts, one of the biggest challenges of this working on location.
This reaction can be direct, on what appears at this moment. Often it is a reaction on what has occured there in the past but is hardly visible anymore. On the way people tried to build a life there. Or on the remains I find of earlier lives, of people or animals.
