‘Toiles d’Ardoise’ came into the world during my AIR la Sarthe, France in 2017.

During my stay the roof of the house was renovated. Damaged slates were replaced. The tiler let them slide down carelessly. I studied this 'waste', every piece of slate was like clotted history. Of the house, where it was now. And of the place where it evolved. Traces of water, wind, plants and animals, fossils. The material was shouting for attention. I looked for a way to capture this rough beauty. Eventually a series of frottages on textile occured. I call them ‘Toiles d’Ardoise’. 

This book shows a selection of these frottages. I mainly concentrated on details. To bring their remarkable beauty into the limelight.
