Installations In-Situ
(2007 - 2025)I like to create installations for one specific location. Inside or outside. I let myself be led by the environment. My work is a reaction on what shows there. Or to what does not show, as an invisible presence. The reaction of my work on what surrounds it, and the reaction of what surrounds on my work. (Click on title for close-up).
3000 years, BEAR, WALK/STAND, PUSH, SUPPORT, CLAMP, CARRY, BALANCE
(2025)Figurines made of opposite materials; wool, archaeological wood, birch wood. Wool, birch wood; Soft, perishable materials. Archaeological wood: Iron Age well, about 3000 years old. Always enclosed by groundwater and moist earth, compacted and hardened. Soft and transient felt and birch wood, a strong contrast to the archaeological wood. In terms of color, hardness and age. Yet they carry each other, lean and lean on each other, without one the other does not survive.
Hortus Conclusus
(2024)Irene Keijzer invited me to join her in researching the theme "Hortus Concluses". The Enclosed Garden, in the Middle Ages the symbol of Mary (purity). The seclusion makes free passage difficult. Is the protection of the Enclosed Garden from the inside or from the outside? How (un)desirable is the seclusion? Does it exclude the person who wants to go in? Or is the one caught inside? I created two spatial works and a video based on this theme.
Temporary stay
(2024)At organic farm Sprankenhof in Udenhout NL I created four in-situ works based on the theme 'Temporary stay'. A very present topic in this day and age, when more and more people are on the road. Desired or forced. But in addition to the reports that reach in the news, it is a recognizable theme for everyone. After all, don't we all need a place where we feel at home?
Photographic images
(2020 - 2024)My fascination for everyday subjects, found objects and still lifes regularly lead me to capture them. Sometimes I process them in a book or video, other times they remain separate, stand-alone images.
Video / moving images
(2017 - 2022)Carefully I embark on the field of moving images. From the longing to satisfy my need to capture light. To represent movement and/or change. Or to be able to give images to a certain subject. To look into the role of sound. I am experimenting with the possibilities of this medium. Still a bit uncertain but full of wonder.
Earth flowers
(2013)'Earth-flowers' came to me by observing what happens to a piece of waste land: animals come and go, leave their droppings, tread down plants... The earth is turned up, new flowers appear from the earth, like from nowhere. Often in discrete colours, the most intriguing forms... (Click on the titles for a close-up).
Collages 'THE JOURNEY BACK'
(2004 - 2020)A suitcase full of things that I think I will have need of. Things that I cannot take leave of. Ready for the journey back. In quest of what I think to have lost. Important things without a name. Impressions. Be welcome to the gathering of lost souls.... (Click on the different titles for a close-up).
Eructations and Excursions
(2010 - 2019)Sometimes I enjoy myself with little excursions. Like eructations without consequences... Strange images see daylight, waiting for what might be still to come, some day. (Click on the different titles for a close-up).
Collages SHEELA
(2011 - 2012)In catholic churches in Ireland one sometimes finds pre-christian fertility statues, the 'Sheela-na-gig', a woman pointing at her vagina. The church has tried to replace this fertility symbol by a more christian image of women, 'Brigid'. The struggle between these two images has become apparent in these collages.
Collages: Coming Home
(2002)On my journey through deserted houses I took many photographs. To catch the moment. Behind every image a story is hiding. About people who left and did not return. And behind this story is hiding yet another story. This theme lead up to the 'storyboxes'; one looks at the image behind the image. and at the story behind the images.
Books
(2001 - 2024)Sometimes my work is like a succession of notes; first there was an image, from there another image came, from there another one. A succession of things I should not forget. Not now nor later. These 'notes' I put together in books. Often not on paper. Often in edition of 1. (Click on the different titles for a close-up).
Bookrolls
(2009 - 2010)Sometimes my work is like a series. The complete series shapes into a book. Every page is like a part of the story. When you turn the page, you close one part of the story, and go on to the next. With the bookroll I break loose from this hierarchy; when the bookroll is unrolled, the whole story unrolles in one glance.
