During my residence d'artiste in La Vienne Fr in 2022, I created this installation "À la dérive" (in English: 'Adrift').
It was exhibited at my "exposition de fin de résidence" in October 2022.

'À la dérive' is made of 144 paper boats, folded from the pages of a road atlas. This installation represents the uncertain times that we live in. So many people on their way to find a new life elsewhere. No more security, no means to make their lives. In small vulnerable boats, they brave the seas to start a new life elsewhere.
Yet also these paper boats are a child's play image. Who among us has not folded paper boats as a child ?
The curators exhibition text says: "Van Son’s poignant installation using paper and projection captures perfectly the tragedy of borders and territory unfolding before our eyes".
