During my residence d'artiste in La Vienne Fr in 2022, I created four works with the title "Rituels".
The house where I was staying was built against the ruins of an old castle. The garden was actually on the old castle grounds.
This installation, "Gardiens de passage" is built out of 56 woollen "creatures" in the entrance and staircase towards the old castle ruins.
The exhibition text says: "The guardians are surveiling the entrance towards the castle grounds. They guard the "passage". They look gentle and touchable, but beware. We can't pass them without them observing us minutely."
They are also fragile and temporary (thus "passing through", in French: "de passage"). The small suspended installation of pure sheep wool sculptures bob about in the ancient stone walls, like the sheep your are supposed to conjure when unable to sleep.
They combine the constantly ambiguous nature of Ine's work which deliberately confuses form and function and appear to be living creatures rather than inanimate objects.
